Mixdown Techniqes 101

Mixing is the perfect combination of art and science. On one hand you have to understand the song, the genre, and have an intuitive feel for how all the tracks should blend together in order to create the perfect mix, and on the other you need to know all the technical aspects and capabilities of the equipment required to actually perform the mix: consoles, dynamics processors, effects processors, etc. There are countless different ways you can mix one song, and each mix can have an entirely different feel.

This mixing course starts you off by learning about the aspects, techniques and equipment used in the mixdown process. Just some of the topics include: monitoring, ear training, analog and digital mixing, rough mixes, mix techniques and approaching a new mix, effects and dynamics processing, and bouncing your final mix.

Before you can begin experimenting, however, you need to know how all the pieces of a studio can work together to achieve your desired sound. This mixdown techniques course introduces you to the fundamentals of mixing in the box. It takes you through all the important steps of a complete mixdown procedure in your favorite software (Protools, Logic, Cubase etc).
