The course “RAC – Refrigeration and Air Conditioning” sheds light upon various refrigeration and air conditioning systems, teaches you how to apply natural and more eco-friendly refrigeration methods while experiencing hands-on experience in our large university lab.
RAC – what to expect
The course delivers state-of-the-art theory and provides hands-on practical training in refrigeration and air-conditioning techniques and their applications in industry. A particular focus of this course is on climate-friendly alternative refrigerants: Ammonia, CO2, Hydrocarbons and Water.
Participants will learn how real systems used in commercial and industrial refrigeration as well as air conditioning systems are working. The participants will be able to experiment in the university lab with different refrigeration systems, including the world most efficient and cleanest unit, based on pure water. During the course participants will get to visit a real carbon dioxide supermarket plant, an industrial ammonia installation as well as Hydrocarbon air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems.

- Alternative refrigerants
- Thermodynamics, Refrigeration, Working fluids, Heat transfer
- Compressors, Heat exchangers, Expansion valves
- Two stage / cascade systems
- Controls
- Simulation
- Commercial, industrial and transport refrigeration
- Air conditioning (stationary and mobile)
Target group
The RAC training course is intended for professionals (engineers, technicians or managers) who are interested in implementing sustainable refrigeration engineering with special focus on natural refrigerants. Ideally participants have a technical background with some basics in thermodynamics and refrigeration technology.
Organisation
The course includes 90 teaching hours, Monday to Friday: 08.00 am to 5:00 pm (with slight changes due to the technical visits) and will be taught in English. English handouts will be provided during the course in addition to an English refrigeration text book.
The maximum number of participants is 15 to ensure quality practical training in the lab.
