Writing to infludence policy

Turning in-depth research into compelling reports that will influence policymakers requires a clear, concise and persuasive writing style. We’ll help your team to identify their key messages and the ‘so what’ factor in the reports they write to inform and influence policy. By profiling their audience and learning how to adapt their writing for their intended readers, your team will make sure their research and analysis will be understood – and acted on. And we’ll use examples of your organisation’s documents to create relevant, targeted materials that address your team’s challenges and goals. A key feature of this course is that all delegates receive our unique pre-course writing analysis. This covers 15 different areas of writing skills and helps us ensure the training meets the delegates’ precise writing needs, while ensuring delegates make rapid, targeted improvements. We can run this course remotely online or in person at your workplace or choice of venue. By the end of the training, attendees will be able to: • identify compelling key messages and put recommendations up front • strip out overly academic writing and adopt a succinct, punchy style • write in clear, straightforward language suited to the intended readers • plan and build an effective structure in order to inform • construct a persuasive argument in order to influence • know what to put in – and what to leave out – to make their case • use graphics and data effectively to support the narrative • write in a consistent voice, using your house style as necessary • ensure accuracy in their punctuation and grammar.
