This has contributed to acquiring general ideas about countries and their people. Countries in Southeast Asian region – Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, Brunei – belong to the Malay language group and have their roots in the Malay Culture. As such, they share the same values like family orientation, harmony, religiosity, among others. But due to cross national immigration and assimilation, these countries evolved in different directions, absorbing numerous cultural features of countries that have colonized them or with whom they have a historical trading relationship, making each country unique in articulating the shared values. So, while they share the same values, they express these in different ways both in their personal lives and in business dealings. Knowing, understanding and accepting the uniqueness of these countries will have an impact on how you deal and communicate and negotiate with the people from these countries.
