Planning a Professional Career in the International Nonprofit Sector

Over the past few decades, the Nonprofit sector has tremendously expanded and its activities have become highly professional. Nowadays, a nonprofit career is no longer a matter of selfless idealism alone: it is a job sector with unprecedentedly diversified vocational opportunities. Further, the nonprofit sector offers people of all professional career paths access at any career level. Similar to the requirements enforced for a corporate position, the nonprofit job seeker now needs a set of well-trained skills and knowledge earnestly gathered through college education and work experience in order to be competitive in the job market. This workshop will introduce the participants to the strategies upon how one gets prepared effectively for a nonprofit career, how to use the tools and resources available to find the employment matching one‘s ambitions. A particular emphasis will be placed on new nonprofit career paths in social businesses, social enterprises, corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, NGO-based social entrepreneurship, foundations, as well as publicsector related international development careers.
