Live Sound Engineering 102: Monitoring Mixing

This Monitor Mix Engineer course is a beginner level course that follows the Live Sound Engineering 101. Although the 101 class is not a prequesit for this class, I recommend that unless students have an intermediate level of experience they should start with the 101 class. This class is ideal for young sound engineers with a small amount of experience who want to learn the skills needed for a position as a Monitor Mix Engineer(MME) with a larger production company or want to raise their skill level where they work already.

The course consists of textbook reading assignments, PDF presentations, video explanations and internet research. You will need to purchase a copy of the Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook by Davis & Jones. You'll learn how to read and generate documents, interpret line drawings to aid you in planning for deployment of large scale productions. There is a section on stagecraft and one on workflow and communication! What I do is give people some of the basics that you can't really learn in the field. Especially what I call the "Conventional Wisdom" of the industry. If you are a young or old sound engineer who learned "on the job", there may be many things that will help you achieve better results in these classes.

I meet with students once a week in a live chat room and discuss their most pressing questions and problems. In addition to the chat session, we use Discussion Forums extensively. The forums are a way to interact and address questions and problems as they are posted day to day.
